12 Things To Consider Before Choosing A Wedding Venue

The budget

Establishing a budget is the first step in planning your wedding. Generally, your venue and catering should make up no more than 50% of your total wedding budget. Going over this means you will have to take funds from other elements of your wedding which could change the overall plan of your big day.

How many options you should look at

Couples usually consider two different types of venues: one for their ceremony and another for their reception. While the majority stick to just one for convenience, most of the time they require two. If you fall into the latter, remember to consider the travel time from one venue to the other so you can plan accordingly.

Being flexible with your wedding date

Choosing the day of your wedding is obviously a big decision, but it will ultimately depend on the availability of your wedding venue. At The Capital, we want to ensure your big day goes exactly as you envisioned it so we recommend booking a year or two in advance to secure the venue and wedding day of your dreams.

Location

The Capital hotels are located across the country giving you more options to choose from. Apart from offering the opportunity for a destination wedding, our hotels are easy to find so there’s one less thing to worry about.

How many guests will you be having?

The capacity limit of your venue will affect your guest list so once you’ve secured a venue, you can start adding names to the invite list. We have a wide range of event venues across all our hotels with varying capacities, so we can easily accommodate your wedding party.

Overnight accommodation

A venue with overnight accommodation is ideal for a number of reasons. Firstly, it provides a convenient and comfortable location for you to get ready on the big day. It’s also helpful for family and friends who travel from all corners of the world (or country) to be present for your special day. When you book directly through The Capital, you get 20% off.

Venue restrictions and curfew

Every party has its pooper so make sure what it is beforehand. This doesn’t necessarily determine when your party has to end overall, but more about when it has to stop at the contracted location. It’s also essential to determine your venue’s noise and lighting restrictions. All of this will be covered at the respective hotel of your choosing.

Catering and bar restrictions

If you’re selecting a package inclusive of food and drinks, make sure you’re getting the most bang for your buck by inquiring if and what you’re allowed to bring.

The theme and style of your wedding

Choosing a space that aligns with your vision is priority number one. Ultimately the style of your venue comes down to personal preference. Whether you’re opting for a timeless, classic wedding or perhaps something more bohemian and relaxed, The Capital hotels can be decorated to suit your taste.

Prioritise must-haves

Having a shortlist of things you absolutely have to have will make finding a location, venue, and theme easier. Doing this early helps avoid disappointment later. Here are some examples of things you might include:

  • A rooftop space with a stunning view
  • Customisable in-house catering
  • A late curfew for a late-night party
  • Being the only event for the day to ensure privacy

Transportation

You want the venue to create a positive experience for everyone attending so ensuring there’s enough parking for your guests, and a shuttle to bring them from the parking to the venue (if necessary) is imperative.

A backup plan

One thing that won’t always go according to plan is the weather. If you’re gearing up for an idyllic outdoor wedding, you want to avoid your parade being rained on (or blown away by the disruptive south-easterly wind). Check with the venue coordinator on what your other options are should you need to relocate your party.
