KwaZulu Natal Attractions

KwaZulu Natal is a beautiful coastal province in South Africa with a rich culture and diverse ecosystem. It is one of the most popular destinations in the country due to its breathtaking mountains, beaches, safari game reserves, and vibrant Zulu culture. If you are looking to take a vacation and get a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, KZN is the place for you.

Hotel Stay

The Capital Hotels and Apartments has two locations in the heart of KwaZulu Natal that are easily accessible and offer top-of-the-range luxury suites tailored to meet any need you may have.

The Capital Pearls is a site to see, located on the coastline of Umhlanga, with a private shopping mall with 60 shops and 16 restaurants. You are truly spoilt for choice. Hotel guests have complimentary access to Planet Fitness gym during their stay, a pharmacy, Camelot spa, a kid’s play area, and secure underground parking.

The Capital Zimbali Resort is South Africa’s most iconic coastal resort located in a luxury estate with glorious views of the Indian ocean. The destination is set in a tropical forest stretching out into the ocean, instantly ushering hotel guests into paradise. The resort offers fun activities such as golfing at the professional golf course, relaxing at the Zimbali Beach club, exploring the Wine Emporium, and bird watching (over 200 bird species). It will be a holiday resort you will not want to check out of.

The Attractions

South Africans and world travellers flock to KZN all year round to marvel at its breathtaking wildlife on land and in the ocean. Booking game drives to spot the big five (leopards, lions, elephants, buffalos, and rhinos) and coastal tours to witness whale migration up close.

The Elephant Coast

The Elephant Coast is an exceptional stretch of coastline and associated attractions between St Lucia and Kosi Bay. You can explore the biodiverse iSimangaliso Wetland Park on the north eastern edge of KZN, one of South Africa’s gems and the first UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The park re-introduced naturally occurring wildlife, making it a unique safari destination. Discover the diversity of birds (over 500 bird species) and animal life ranging from dolphins, the Nile crocodile, South Africa’s largest hippo population, the big five, and leaping antelopes. The park offers hiking trails, deep-sea fishing, game viewing, and whale watching.

The Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve is the oldest game park in Africa established in 1895 and set in the heart of Zululand where Zulu kings such as Shaka hunted. The Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park is world renowned for its white rhino conservation and is the only park under formal conservation. You can view the majestic rhino while on a game drive and diverse ecosystem of swamps, lakes, beaches, coral reefs and coastal forests.

Kosi Bay Mouth forms part of the iSimangaliso wetland park with lakes that lead into the Indian Ocean. You can snorkel with an abundance of fish or you can dive with sea turtles at Sodwana Bay. Sodwana Bay is one of the top scuba diving destinations in South Africa.

Drakensberg

The Drakensberg is a bucket list destination for most South Africans because of its well-documented heritage sites, natural beauty, and exciting activities to do, from hiking to visiting the caves and battlefields and so much more.

Explore the exceptional natural beauty of the Drakensberg from caves, rock shelters, and rock art made by the San people. The rock art of the Drakensberg is the largest group of rock paintings in Africa. You can hike on breathtaking Drakensberg mountains, visit the Ukhohlamba Drakensberg Park or visit the battlefield site where the fierce battles (Anglo-Zulu war and Anglo-Boer war) took place.

The Midlands Meander is a foodies paradise with a refreshing and diverse mix of arts and crafts. With more than 160 places to eat and shop, you can enjoy lunch with a backdrop of the Drakensberg mountains.

Ushaka Marine World

Ushaka Marine World is the most popular family destination in KZN. A world-class entertainment water theme park full of exciting adventures. Sea World offers educational tours and interactive activities such as snorkeling and scuba diving, where you can go diving with sharks or walk on the ocean floor. Sea World is the largest aquarium in Africa and the 5th largest aquarium worldwide. The park has many onsite restaurants and arts and cultural goods.

Taking vacation time is great for your curiosity and overall well-being. KwaZulu Natal’s attractions are dramatically beautiful and diverse, providing a refreshing break from the mundane yet busy lifestyle.
